ABOUT

Meet Alyssa & NICK

8.14.21
The day I will marry my best friend.  The one i laugh with, live for, dream with, and love.

Days Until Our Wedding

Alyssa:

We went to Tavern on Maine in Belleville, IL. It was a week after his sisters wedding, in June. He asked me out, but I Facebook messaged him after talking to Anna, Alyssa, and Erica. I felt nervous but excited to be seeing him again. After dinner, we went to central west end to hang out with our friends, since Nick was going back to Texas the next day and I felt guilty if he didn’t get to see his two best friends Zach and Chris. We hung out with our friends and decided to keep talking after the date.

Nick:

Alyssa had to make the first move when we were getting started. We had gone out with a group of friends after my sister’s wedding, and I had felt a spark but was living in Austin at the time and thought there was no way she’d want to do long distance so I didn’t get her number. A couple days later I got a Facebook friend request and a message asking how my day was going. Taking this as a sign, I immediately asked her out.

We both wanted to keep this from our friends in case things didn’t work out so I told my friends I was going to hang out with some hunting buddies that night as cover. Alyssa felt bad that I was missing a night out with my friends (I backed out on previous plans for the date) and decided to turn the second half of our date into a group hang out after they figured out we had planned a secret date. I thought she was backing out so I was a bit disappointed when our plans changed since it seemed like she was getting cold feet.

However when I got to Tavern on Main in Belleville I could already tell it was going to be a great date. We had a great dinner stuck in a tight little corner where we got to know each other through forced proximity. Before we left for the Central West End to meet up with our friends I know we had something special.

First Date

Alyssa:

I was waiting for this proposal for a long time, I found the ring cleaner downstairs and I saw the envelope of a store when he walked out of the house.

Anyways, we went to his parents house in Lake of the Ozark's for a long weekend over Memorial Day. It was a Saturday night and Nick had our friends join us. I forgot my makeup, which I didn’t realize until it was too late and nick told me I needed to pick some up so I could have them for the couples photos we were doing that weekend. Our friend Jane likes to take photos was there that weekend and she was taking pictures of us at sunset. However, it was too cloudy so Nick and I took a few more photos just in case it would clear up. After pictures on the dock, we went up on the deck and he got down on one knee and proposed! I said yes. It was great. He asked my dad for my hand n marriage and I think that made it more special.

Although, I kind of thought it would happen though because it was supposed to be couples taking photos but they were of just us.

Nick:

I had gotten Alyssa’s ring back in February and had planned for a spring proposal, but she busted me when I went to go pick up the ring so I figured I needed to make her wait a bit to rebuild the anticipation! Alyssa also had a requirement to have someone be ready to take a photo when the proposal occurred which added another level of complexity to the situation.

I eventually settled on Memorial Day at the Lake of the Ozarks so I could have a natural surprise while my parents could take the picture. Unfortunately my parents had to cancel last minute but I was able to invite a few friends along instead to help fill in. One of them, Jane Wang, actually does some really good hobby photography so this actually worked out well! Our last bit of drama occurred when Alyssa forgot all her makeup at home and I had to think up a plan to get her to buy more down there without being too suspicious.

After a nice photo session I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. Her saying yes was the best thing that ever happened to me!
